Video of SAAX Group Event for South African actuaries in the UK

As we expected this event was amazing!

Professor Robert Bor proved to be an engaging speaker and he provided an interesting view on the transition to work and life in the UK, with a focus on managing diversity and sustaining relationships in business and personal context.

All that has been accompanied by very nice people and good South African wine and food… which made this night even more fun!

A special thanks also to Mr. Adrian Baskir, for such a lovely introduction.

GAAPS is sponsoring this evening’s SAAX Group Event for South African actuaries in the UK.

Dr Geraldine Kaye, MD of GAAPS will be introducing Professor Robert Bor who will provide a fascinating and entertaining perspective on managing the transition to work and life in the UK.

A prize will be presented for the best question asked and as always, the talk will be followed by good food, great South African wine and quality networking with fellow Southern Africans.

South African Actuarial ConneXion Event

Collette and Geraldine attended the first SAAX (South African Actuarial ConneXion) Group event of the year, held in the offices of Swiss Re in “The Gherkin” just across from our own offices in Bevis Marks.

Professor Roger Steare gave a presentation on our “Moral DNA” and explained how insights into our character and cultures can help us to meet the challenges facing business, civic society and our environment.

Have You Thought About International Commuting?

Last Monday evening, Dr Kaye went to a gathering of South African Actuaries at Old Mutual, in a room leading onto a terrace overlooking the Thames.

Peter Temple of Gen Re – who regularly commutes between London and Johannesburg – gave a short but really interesting talk on the issues involved in such international commuting.

Actuarial Society of South Africa Launches New Qualification

On Monday night the Actuarial Society of South Africa held a formal dinner to launch their new actuarial qualification to the media and external stakeholders.

The launch of the new qualification is linked to a wider strategy of establishing the Actuarial Society as a full service professional body and is a tremendous milestone for the Society. The qualification is internationally recognised and a Mutual Recognition Agreement was signed with The Actuarial Profession (UK) in May.

The move is intended to ensure that actuaries have an in-depth knowledge of South African practice, products, legislation and tax, while also understanding international best practice.

The Actuarial Society of South Africa is looking to incorporate Enterprise Risk Management as part of the South African qualification at the earliest possible opportunity as this is a field of increasing interest to South African actuaries.

At GAAPS we wish the Actuarial Society of South Africa the best of luck in their latest venture.
