Event Planning at Imperial

We went for a meeting at the Imperial College Business School to discuss arrangements for the next careers fair.

It was agreed that last year’s event was an overwhelming success with many of the companies in attendance able to recruit interns and entry level students. A number of the companies attending, who previously had not sponsored students for the Imperial MSc have said that they will now be sponsoring students for future intakes.

Once again it will be an evening event but this time it will be held in the Autumn term and will start with some talks highlighting aspects of the Actuarial Finance MSc course at Imperial. There will be wine, cheese and light refreshments and networking oprotunities with the companies participating.

The next GAAPS Actuarial Careers Fair at the University of Pretoria in South Africa will be on the 27th of August 2010.

The next event at Heriot Watt University in Scotland will be on Wednesday the 3rd of November 2010.

Heriot Watt Careers Fair a Success

There were far more companies and students at this years fair than we have ever seen before. Obviously news of how successful the fair is has promulgated. We received a very warm welcome to the fair and the short welcoming speech will be uploaded to YouTube in due course.

An innovation for this year’s careers fair was holding it in the maths department. This idea proved to be a successful way of attracting additional maths students who were walking past, meaning that, although, ostensibly, not what the fair was for, those companies looking for sandwich interns were able to find them.

Cass Careers Fair and Actuaries of the Future

Gaaps at City Uni

Yesterday we attended the Cass Business School careers fair. It was an impressive event with 27 employers from insurance, financial services and real estate.

Our stand was right near the entrance and we were able to greet all the students coming in. There were lots of high-level students, asking lots of questions, and we were pleased to see we have very bright students interested in joining the actuarial profession.

All in all, an enjoyable and successful fair and we were very happy to be there, speaking to the actuaries of the future!

Although after all that talking, (which is normally not a problem for me!) my voice almost went completely!
